Let’s Honor the Memory of Brian Thompson by Banning Handguns and For-Profit Healthcare

One is tempted to offer “thoughts and prayers” and then say “f-ck off.”

So there’s a bunch of noise about Brian Thompson and Luigi Mangione. The case of a single murder of a CEO in 2024 completely overshadows the fact that in that same year, there were more than 970 school shootings.

Ok. We didn’t shoot Brian. We didn’t give Luigi a gun. Yes, some people love Luigi because his action gave voice to their frustration—actually justifiable rage—at United Healthcare and other for-profit healthcare deniers.

But really, most of us don’t like either murder OR health insurance companies that offer death for profit.

Thompson and Mangione are simply stand-ins for bigger issues.

Murder? Let’s Do Something About It!

Clearly, the most visible leaders in government and business don’t give a damn about shootings of schoolchildren. Nobody even pretends to try to do anything about it anymore.

We’ve given up. The gun lobby is too strong and the 2nd amendment makes it illegal to keep elementary school kids safe from violent a-holes. At this point, it’s become embarrassing to even offer thoughts and prayers so we quickly note and forget each…
