Let’s Talk About Imaginary vs. Real Danger

Nicky Haley rails against the imaginary danger of trans children driving teenage girls to suicide (zero cases have been documented) and she ignores the genuine ongoing crises of Christian child sex abuse by priests and ministers.

Nicky Haley is worried, saying “the women’s issue of our time … how are we supposed to get our girls used to the fact that biological boys are in their locker rooms? And then we wonder why a third of our teenage girls seriously contemplated suicide last year?”

This notion that trans children are driving teenage girls to suicide came out of Nicky Haley’s ass. There’s no evidence of this whatsoever. Massive scapegoating is the core “family value” championed by the right wing for decades.

Trans people are simply the latest imaginary boogeymen — absolutely harmless people — who are portrayed now as the devil’s spawn threatening our children and America itself.

They join brown skinned immigrants, liberals, Muslims, Jews, women and anybody who doesn’t share the bigotry of the GOP’s base as scapegoats.

This is a distraction and one that’s so predictable and tiresome that it’s difficult to respond with anything beyond a yawn.

The usual lies and bigotry and hatred and fear. Not a single new idea and exactly zero positive ideas…
