This time can be different because WE will be different.
In 1968, when Russian troops drove their tanks into Czechoslovakia and occupied Prague, young Czechs came out to meet them. And they put flowers in the barrels of the guns of the invading forces.
The “invaders” were — as usual — ordered to attack by their foolish elders. The Russians soldiers, like the Czechs who greeted them, were young people, in their 20s, not yet sure of themselves. They assumed the older people, the people in charge, knew what they were doing.
But that wasn’t the case then and that isn’t the case now. Adults, especially the adults “in charge” are out of touch, clueless. They are not inherently bad people — most of them mean well. But they are fools and they are dangerous — if and only if we take them seriously, only if we follow and obey them.
The fools are destroying our civilization and robbing the young of their future. They are doing this because we not only allow them, we empower them to do this. In fact, they aren’t destroying the planet. WE are destroying the planet with our obedience.
When we run a coal powered plant, we are obeying fools and destroying our children. When we repeat an excuse for continued burning of fossil fuels, we are obeying fools and destroying our children. When we go to work for any fossil fuel…
