Most jobs do not contribute any benefit to society and are unfulfilling. We work these jobs only because they are what are available and we need the income. Any system that produces so many useless jobs and utilizes a dehumanizing “command and control” system of management is deeply flawed and should be changed. This exists not only under American capitalism, but a variety of authoritarian systems throughout the world.

This becomes particularly pronounced as science and engineering and technology increases productivity so much that, with very little labor, it’s possible to produce everything people need for a decent life. We need to question the value of work, and whether we are interested in (an archaic and ultimately destructive) ideology or the wellbeing of people and other creatures.
