My view is that actual climate scientists are the ones most qualified to lead. They understand the problem and the science best. Those businessmen have multiple projects—climate science isn’t their life. And young people are the most deeply committed—it’s their lives and their planet at stake.
Its pretty hard to ignore that fact that businessmen with their need for ever greater profits and their purchase of politicians and policy have marched us to the edge. I don’t trust them to turn back at the last minute.
So, yeah. I’d trust Michael Mann a hell of a lot more than Elon Musk.
In any case, suppose I believe in Gates and Musk. What do I do then? Sit back and wait for them to fix things? Give them donations? Rally to cheer for them? Whatever I do or don’t do, they are free to save the world. I’m not getting in their way.
