No movie is that significant. Don’t Look Up is a decent movie, albeit too long and uneven. It has good moments, and in life, I always look for the good—so I enjoyed despite it’s shortcomings.

I don’t agree with the notion that our survival depends on convincing all deniers and listening to them. Not all “knowledge” is equal. Climate scientists—15,000 of them—have been working for decades to figure all this out and warned us 40 to 50 years ago that we needed to change our ways.

What is necessary is to stop using fossil fuels and move rapidly to renewable energy. We need to reduce CO2. Sadly, the many millions of us who know this cannot do it because we don’t control policy. Neither do the vast majority of deniers.

It’s business and political leaders and economic/political systems worldwide that have failed every year, year after year. And they are hypnotized by ideology and live in bubbles that allow them to continue destroying the Earth.

If we convince every single one of the ordinary deniers—who do not make policy—that the crisis is real and must be fought NOW, it would make no difference.

I’m not preaching despair or defeat. I’m pointing out that we will not, at this late date, solve anything if we depend on the people/systems that got us here.

We need a two track approach—mass protest, especially by children because THEY have skin in the game. It’s THEIR planet that’s being destroyed. And sabotage of the fossil fuel industry, making oil a risky investment and getting money to flee. This concept is outlined in Andreas Malm’s book How To Blow Up A Pipeline.

By the way, if you want see some truly great fiction about the climate, read The Ministry of the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. Well researched, very well written and compelling.
