The real revolution is building friendship.
France has a pretty serious nuclear force. If they chose to, the French could easily decimate America. We don’t worry about it, though. Why? Well, because we are friends.
This is far more significant than people realize. We think that building up military forces is what prevents war, or at least prevents defeat if someone attacks us. But that’s clearly a weak preventative. We see wars all the time between heavily armed countries — and the “weak” often do much better than expected against the “strong.”
That’s because military force isn’t a strength. It’s a weakness. It’s a confession of weakness. It is an advertisement, like a gigantic billboard, exposing weakness. This is true of nations, and it’s true of individuals who carry AK-47s around in alleged self-defense.
Weapons and threats of violence means the threatener is afraid, is a coward. It means that they don’t know how to make peace, or relate in any way other than fear or anger.
These wars, and the conventions of war, are led by nations and the people of nations who accept, and follow and support this insanity, this outrage, this stupidity. You shouldn’t be one of these people. You know better. But to oppose war, and demand sanity, you have to be ready to stand out and speak up.
