Paul—I believe you are reading the room correctly. People everywhere understand and are ready to act on the climate crisis. But they don't know what to do.
People feel alone (am I the only one who cares?) and powerless (we tried voting and protesting and nothing works). People everywhere are pretty close to curling up into the fetal position and giving up.
Here's the thing. We are pretty sure that a WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE are ready to protect the planet that their children will inherit, even if it means defying their leaders (whether oil sheiks, plutocrats or dictators) IF they had the power to fix things.
IF they could realize that 1) their numbers are somewhere north of A BILLION PEOPLE and 2) because leaders do nothing but issue orders, we can simply take control by refusing to do their work.
WE should be putting our complete support behind any credible scientific emergency plan designed to prevent climate collapse. One such plan is Project Drawdown. But there are others.
In any case, we have begun a movement with the intention of raising awareness, awakening the billion, and mobilizing people everywhere as an unstoppable force to implement emergency measures, slash CO2 emissions and do what leaders everywhere have failed to do—deal decisively and effectively to end the crisis.
We believe that our leadership (in both business and government) everywhere is a catastrophic failure, that they are literally insane and that WE can and must do the work.
