How hard is that to understand?
A few years back, I was at Whole Foods getting groceries. I hate self-checkout. Even though I’m an introvert, I still prefer interacting with human beings.
So, this person running the register — I don’t know the right pronoun. Can’t identify the sexuality of this person. But that’s not a problem because I’m not looking for sex. I’m looking for groceries and a little mundane human interaction.
We had a nice conversation. It went slightly beyond the pleasantries — I think we had some kind of interest in common. I don’t remember what. In any case, it was a good human interaction.
The point is this: when people are chatting, they chat as people — not as representatives of any ethnic group, religion, sexual nature, or whatever. Just people. Because we have far more in common than we have differences.
And yeah, I might be interested in your ethnicity. If you are Italian and cook, well that’s (for me) a great thing! But if you are struggling to learn piano (as I am), or a fan of spaceflight history (like me) or we have any interests in common (theatre, anyone?), well THAT’S a connection!
