People are complicated. We can't expect everyone or perhaps even anyone to be an angel or a devil. Pretty much everyone has done good things and bad things.

That said, this particular bad thing by the Dali Lama is very, very disappointing and disturbing. At best, it is a personal failing of him as a person. But it also has no bearing on his positions with regard to China and it's relationship with Tibet. That issue needs to be judged on it's own merits.
