Maybe we are too scared to open our eyes for a reason.

There’s that moment for Mister Magoo, who has been driving his jalopy through a construction site, eyes closed, in blissful ignorance across a narrow girder high above street level.

Suddenly, unexpectedly, his eyes open. Wide.

He mutters something incoherent, in a panic, recognizing he’s in deep trouble.

We as a society, a civilization and a species aren’t there yet. But that time is coming. Our eyes are starting to open.

Reasons To Keep Our Eyes Closed

There’s understandable, even compelling reasons for people to keep their heads down, eyes closed, and continue driving forward with no particular destination.

It’s a scary world and human life by its very nature is rather precarious. We are a species evolved to fear death — and yet must live each day with the knowledge that we are mortal. We want to keep ourselves distracted.

So, we distract ourselves with screens and other diversions.
