WE still don’t get it and continue to fall for the same old crap.
I was unacceptably course and cruel to a good person on Medium. She spoke out against the Just Stop Oil soup “attack” on a painting. Lots of people did the same thing. This struck many as a foolish tactic.
Of course, Just Stop Oil anticipated that. They said that people would complain about the painting and continue to give the oil profiteers who are destroying the climate for profit a free pass — again. Which is what happened.
Earlier in the day, I wrote to a New York Magazine writer responding to his (predictable) article condemning the tactic. His article was, in effect, yet another defense of the very people who will ensure that his children struggle for survival on a post-apocalyptic Earth. I was (understandably) ticked.
Writing while angry is dumb and I should know better. It’s like driving while drunk. The outcome is bound to be bad.
I want to publicly apologize to the Medium writer who I unfairly attacked. But I don’t want to publish her name without her permission. In any case, she’s an excellent writer and I read her work regularly. She has a lot to say and says it well. Her work is filled with wisdom (the kind of wisdom that should be common sense, but isn’t) and…
