Written purposely as a framework, not a guide, the “Declaration” needs some clarification, adjustment and strengthening.
I knew (and know) something is wrong. Just as Greta Thunberg couldn’t understand why adults KNEW that they were destroying the climate and yet continued doing it, I found “business as usual” as the climate deteriorated unfathomable.
How could this be? And also, how can WE let this go on?
The Purpose Is To Disrupt and Force the Change that Saves our Planet for Our Children
Something needed to be written and said that people could rally around, that would inspire them to act. Of course, this alone would not do it. The ideas needed exposure. In any case, I was inspired by a written document that provided a spark for a previous revolution: The Declaration of Independence.
Jefferson said he didn’t have a single original idea in his document. He was merely expressing ideas that were in the air. I tried to do the same thing — I tried to put myself in the heads of millions (probably billions) of people who understood what is happening. People who are frustrated and scared and feel helpless. I wrote A Climate Declaration.
