I have written recently suggesting that women go on a sex strike in the 13 states that have criminalized abortion, making a nonnegotiable demand that women’s rights to control their own bodies be fully restored. Over the last 24 hours, I’ve had more time to think about it, and to listen to responses to that idea.

Of course, many don’t like the idea. (Most are men.) They say it can’t be done (women need sex, too) and that it’s unjust to those men who aren’t bad or responsible for the problem. Those particular responses I anticipated and considered before posting my idea — and I rejected both.
Since, in fact, women HAVE used the tactic of sex strikes to achieve demands, saying it can’t be done is demonstrably false. (Look it up.) It can be done. It’s a decision. Either enough women decide to do it and they do — or they choose not to. But saying it’s impossible is simply false. Oh, and incidentally, saying you need ALL women to participate is also nonsense. All you need is enough participation to get attention and exert pressure. More is better and more effective, but this is a useful…
