Saving the Earth will require a kind of peaceful revolution. But most of us aren’t revolutionaries. What now?
Because authorities worldwide have failed to address the climate crisis — indeed, they seem to be allied with the fossil fuel industry in their plot to destroy the planet for power and profit — WE will need to save it. And to save it, we will need to defy and overwhelm these authorities.
We won’t be literally overthrowing governments, but we will be forcing them to bend to our will — or resign in favor of someone who will. Because we’ve had enough and we can’t wait.
The climate is collapsing NOW and without OUR intervention, the destruction will be complete and our children will have no future and Earth will forever be an inhospitable hellhole.
So, even if we don’t literally overthrow governments, we will need to have a kind of revolution. But we are just ordinary people — not passionate ideologues and firebrands. What can WE do?
How can WE have a revolution? A revolution of wimps?! And I count myself in this category. Because I’m just an ordinary person. I’d rather not subject myself to being arrested, to being a target of violence, to being publicly denounced and vilified. And that’s what often happens to people who stand up to authorities, to try to exercise moral force.
