Scientists and engineers—people like you—have something essential to contribute that is beyond my capability. In fact, my role is to empower people like you to do your part. As I often say, I’m not a scientist, much less a climate scientists, and I’m not qualified to design the best plan to address the crisis.

That said, when we assemble the initial team, once we attract and include some genuine qualified scientists, to begin outlining a prototype climate plan—which is really a plan for the future of our species and planet—I tend to believe that what they will create will be very much like what you propose. I see merit in nearly all alternative energy (for example, how could Iceland sensibly NOT use geothermal?!), but solar seems to be central and the key. I also recognize that while LED by climate scientists, this plan must will need to include the imagination, intelligence and, well LOVE of many people in many different disciplines.

I am personally moving out of my comfort zone, going places and doing things I never dreamed. They are what I feel compelled to do. Right now, I need to be a messenger, and organizer, and I need to articulate a vision which is compatible with what people feel already, understand already, deep inside.

I think about Einstein who said that imagination is even more important than intelligence. We’ll need both to get out of this mess. I have a lot of confidence in our intellect as a species. We’ve used our abilities, all too often, in destructive ways. But for naked apes, we’ve shown that we CAN accomplish a lot.

Now, the job is to make sure that what we accomplish isn’t self-destruction, but outgrowing the cradle of a floundering civilization, and become a mature and responsible species, and proper stewards of our beautiful Earth.
