I’m deep in the process of de-accessioning books in preparation for an eventual move to a smaller home. This hasn’t stopped me from acquiring new books — but the total supply has been trending sharply downwards.
With fewer books, I pay closer attention to the books I still have, and especially to recent acquisitions. Keeping that in mind, I’m sharing with you a few books that inspire me right now.
Ministry of the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson
I consider this scientifically-accurate fictional account of the near future to be the most important book of the 21st century. The Ministry of the Future is a (fictional) tiny UN-affiliated group charged with representing the interests of future generations. In that capacity, the group’s leadership is focused on addressing the climate crisis.
I own two copies of this book. One is an autographed first edition. The other is a beat up copy, sans dust jacket, that I loan out to anyone who shows interest in reading it.
