Some decades back, my wife and I decided we could not afford to stay in New York City. We visited several domestic alternatives and picked Philadelphia. What a great idea. At the time, it was cheap and—although we couldn’t afford expenses in New York, we bought TWO houses in Philly, one of which generated rental income.
We recently sold one to buy our retirement condo…on a high floor with a river view. Something impossible in NYC.
Nowadays, a new city in the United States won’t do it. But it’s a big world and there are probably dozens of places where a better life awaits!
