Why demanding radical change is now a modest and reasonable proposal

In 2000, the majority of the American voters selected Al Gore as their president. In defiance of their wishes, the Supreme Court seated George W. Bush in the Oval Office. This was not considered a radical move — it was within the “rules” at least insofar as how 5 “Justices” interpreted them. The other 4 Justices, I suppose we are expected to conclude, were simply wrong. As were the majority of voters.

Because of that Court decision, we got a fossil fuels advocate instead of a climate advocate in the White House. Had that decision turned out differently, with just one Justice changing his/her mind, our government could have worked to prevent climate extinction instead of speeding us towards it.

Today, and really only starting last week, the wrath of Nature by an abused Earth towards her abusers is on full display. Up until now, our leaders denied, minimized, postured and otherwise simply pretended the problem could be ignored. They actually accelerated the activities that are destroying our climate and continue to do so.
