Member-only story
What adaptation to climate collapse really looks like. Fiction — for now.
With the Earth boiling and constantly ravaged by floods, wildfires, droughts, heatwaves and worse — conditions that make us remember 2023 as “the good old days” of five years ago — we can’t grow much food and the animals we used to eat are extinct.
Boy, it happened fast.
Now, we mostly eat people. We need to eat and dead people are plentiful. There’s a steady supply.
What should we do? Bury them? Let the corpses rot?
Back in 2023, we’d have been horrified. But we were stupid and clueless. We refused to face reality.
Today, we face reality.
Not Much Fighting
A few years back, there were people called survivalists. They stocked canned and powdered food and planned to defend those treasures with their beloved guns.
Most of them are dead. Their guns rust. Nobody gave a crap about a few months of food for a dozen people or so. They were morons.
Those of us who are still alive work together. We are battling the cruel man-made nightmare that replaced Nature.
We do whatever it takes. Violence doesn’t help. You can’t shoot a hurricane.
