Meeting a crisis with a tepid compromise is literally insanity; worldwide, leadership is a catastrophic failure.
Remember when we were wondering how long COVID would last? “Forever” didn’t seem to be one of the possibilities. I mean, it’s a terrible disease, and diseases — no matter how mysterious and dangerous — come and go.
Deep down, our fervid belief was — this can’t be happening and it surely will end. But it DID happen and it seems to never end. Leaders worldwide botched it — despite having brilliant scientists who quickly developed an excellent vaccine. Leaders wanted to save “the economy” — that is, the wealth of their patrons — and not the people of the world. Now, COVID may be forever with us.
“The Art of the Possible” is a tacit reminder that the government doesn’t care about the people and, in order to do anything at all that might benefit ordinary citizens, a brutal “compromise” is required. The result is that most Americans are shortchanged by their government, while the wealthy are continuously rewarded generously.
That’s why there is hand wringing over every bill that benefits the public, and it’s inevitably cut down to the nub, and then praised as “the greatest such bill ever.” I still remember that when the Reagan tax cut was touted as the biggest tax cut ever, my take home pay went DOWN…
