Everyone has a role to play

I’m relieved that Dr. Oz won’t be a U.S. Senator. He seems to me to be a smarmy TV pitchman and a proponent of policies that would be deadly for Pennsylvanians, Americans and Earthlings in general.

But he was a good surgeon. Actually, an excellent surgeon. I’ve never met him, but he may be personally warm and kind. I hope so, but I couldn’t say. In any case, I feel certain he has some good qualities. Nearly everyone has.

I absolutely want to stop people, especially those in positions of power and authority, from doing serious damage. This is completely different from hating those people. I think hate is unnecessary and dangerous.

I don’t hate Dr. Oz.

What about George W. Bush? Well, I really like his paintings. A lot! His portraits of soldiers captures something in their faces, their humanity. I oppose nearly every military intervention, but I don’t think of people who serve as terrible people. They are people, each unique. Bush captures this about them. I wish he would paint the portraits of soldiers on the other side of the conflict. And civilians. We need to see everyone’s humanity.

Yes, I did oppose many of George W. Bush’s policies. If I could have blocked some of those policies, I would have. But I don’t hate George W. Bush. Heck, I suspect that if I…
