The Kinks are brilliant and I’ve seen Ray Davies perform in person twice. The Kinks are storytellers, so their work may seem “small.”

But it isn’t small. It’s intimate. It’s personal. It’s very real. Very much like the better work of Fountains of Wayne.

The Kinks sometimes seem cynical—but they have a genuine affection for heir subjects, ordinary working class people.
