The latest IPCC report says that climate impacts on people and ecosystems are more widespread and severe than expected, and future risks will escalate rapidly with every fraction of a degree of warming.
The report also found that some climate impacts are already so severe they cannot be adapted to, leading to losses and damages.
The report further stated that the world must rapidly shift away from burning fossil fuels — the number one cause of the climate crisis. Here in America, vast new area have been opened to drilling—there isn’t a hint of a slowdown—the oil companies, aided by our government, are expanding the use of fossil fuels.
We waited so long that we cannot avoid the 1.5 degree increase without adding significant carbon removal—something that as of now we have very, very insufficient capacity. Carbon removal is now essential to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees C.
So, it’s worse than expected snd we’ve taken no meaningful steps to address the crisis. The United States is on course to INCREASE fossil fuel use, and all the major CO2 emitting nations show no credible signs of sharply decreasing emissions.
What’s exactly your case for just staying calm? Either calm or alarmed, we are currently speeding to blow past 1.5 degrees. That is insane and unacceptable. We have a continuing catastrophic failure of leadership on this existential crisis everywhere: U.S,, UK, Russia, China, India.
Frankly, I don’t see what you are talking about. All
The policymakers are perfectly fine continuing business as usual while talking about (lying) taking action.
No, it’s insane to knowingly destroy the planet you are living on. That’s what our leaders in business and government have been doing for decades and they continue to do so up to this very day.
That’s why:
We demand an immediate worldwide emergency program, led by climate scientists, to end fossil fuels, end climate abuse and repair our planet.
There is NO current plan and the actions being taken are speeding us to oblivion. Those are the relevant facts. Whether we are calm or panicky as these policies complete the Sixth Extinction is not important.
