It’s better than nothing if a slightly slower death of our species can be called an accomplishment
As usual, the established powers-that-be, the self-proclaimed experts who essentially reject science are praising the Inflation Reduction Act as a meaningful first step to addressing the fact that leaders around the world are speedily making our Earth uninhabitable. They heap praise on this sclerotic compromise, portraying it as a great victory of bipartisanship while simultaneously attacking the “radicals” who note that this bill will NOT save the planet, that it promotes fossil fuels and actually spends very little towards C02 emissions reduction.
It mostly offers tax credits for doing some good things — and most of those subsidies will not be collected because fossil fuels are STILL more profitable — given the aggressive protection of fossil fuels by the same government that is bragging about this bill. But even if some renewable energy is boosted by this bill, it does no good UNLESS WE STOP BURNING FOSSIL FUELS.
This bill will not do that. But outsized praise for this bill is everywhere. This Slate article actually cites a Tweet that summarizes the simple truth as evidence that the left is being extreme and foolish in criticizing the bill.
