“They aren’t destroying the Earth. The Earth will be just fine.”
OMFG. Have you heard this? Do you understand what this means? This is a thin and annoying defense of planet-wide murder/suicide.
It’s the equivalent of this:
“Hitler didn’t commit ‘genocide.’ First of all, he didn’t kill all the Jews. And Jews aren’t all genetically related, either. They aren’t a race.”
Yeah. There’s some pedantry in defense of mass murder. Because the word “genocide” wasn’t precise enough.
Please Don’t Fall For That
So, what we are expected to do in response is to find more precise words and use those. But the more precise words always seem to have no emotional impact. They remove all of the force of our positions with sterile terminology.
We are supposed to use “climate change” which is allegedly more accurate. But that term PURPOSELY misses the point. It removes the urgency and severity of the crisis. Even global warming — which IS in fact, accurate albeit incomplete — is better because the planet IS warming and finally people actually feel it. The warming is increasingly uncomfortable and dangerous. But “global warming” still understates the…
