The power of those in charge is completely dependent not only on widespread cooperation with them, but on widespread active support. Remember: the powerful produce nothing. Everything is produced by scientists, engineers and workers.

The likely scenario for survival—if we do survive—is this. An inevitably dramatic and deadly climate event kills maybe 20 million people overnight. Something this big and dramatic is inevitable when you destroy the planet you are living on.

This triggers the ouster of everyone responsible for current policies and everyone who supports them. Scientist and engineers and competent people who care are put in charge. And we finally fight climate catastrophe with all we’ve got. This happens everywhere — Including Russia and China. (Non-capitalist elites love power, too.)

In the meantime, this author’s advice is excellent. Speak out. We need to slash C02 emissions sharply right now. We need to speed up the race to decentralized renewable energy—especially solar. We need to openly and directly dismiss everyone in power who aren’t doing enough. Everyone. We need to put more younger people in decisive positions.Apparently the old people in charge are so superficial and selfish or delusional that they’ll happily murder their own children and grandchildren and the entire species.

Those people should never be in a position of power. They aren’t competent to decide on breakfast, much less the survival of our species.
