Imagine a sane, sensible and caring approach to educating our children.
And so it came to pass that parents and other adults decided to fill in the gaps in their children’s education. The states — under pressure from various hate groups — had failed in its responsibility, so an alternative approach was necessary. Incredibly, they had banned books, trying to limit what children could be taught, and even what they think.
Parents recognized child abuse when they saw it, and they refused to comply. If the state failed, the parents would succeed.
What’s More American Than Mark Twain?
I must admit, I hate Mark Twain. It’s pure jealousy. He’s such a good writer AND he makes it look easy. But it isn’t easy. Try to write like Mark Twain and you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
The simple truth is that Huckleberry Finn is an essential book. Yeah, it offends people on both sides of the ideological divide. That’s okay. The reading group doesn’t care. We aren’t doing this for them. We are doing this for our children.
We want them to appreciate and enjoy great literature and understand the important lessons in books like his. Like most of the banned books, Twain’s works are profound. In the eyes of the child-abusing ideologues, dangerously so.
