Don’t engage with the ignorant. Strategize with the knowledgeable.
We live in an age of lies and dissembling. Too many people, behaving like spoiled toddlers, ignore reality and simply demand what they want. What they want is, all too often, to brutally abuse others.
These same infantile people have teamed up with others to take over many state governments, and much of the federal government, including the Supreme Court. We are ruled by partisan hacks. But it’s worse than that. We are ruled by childish, ignorant, cruel and vile fools who will destroy others along with themselves — if we let them.
I think we spend too much time arguing (or even agreeing) with strangers on social media. We need smaller groups to get together in person, or in private virtual meetings, to talk about the biggest and most urgent problems we face, and to strategize. This is a better use of our time, and I believe, one that can empower us to turn things around.
There is such a thing as reality and there are experts — at least in some fields, science and engineering being the big ones. The climate scientists are experts, they understand what is happening to the climate and have warned us that we are dangerously damaging the climate by spewing C02 from burning fossil fuels.
