The Vision Thing

George H.W. Bush didn’t have it. None of today’s “leaders” do. But ordinary people do.

Infamously, presidential candidate (later president) George H.W. Bush admitted he didn’t have a vision for the nation or the future. He didn’t have “the vision thing.”

What’s Biden’s vision? DeSantis? Any of them? (Okay, Trump has a vision — it’s a vision of himself as Mussolini. But that’s not a vision of a better future for Americans.) These weak or selfish leaders just pick their issues — often issues that have no relevance for most Americans — and focus on THEIR priorities, not ours. This is part of the reason why politics is pretty much like team sports — people root for “their side” but the winners never do much for the people. Minor improvements are lionized as the greatest such advancement on that issue ever made.

Sadly, these weak improvements often are the best that has ever been offered. For example, the Affordable Care Act is the biggest advancement in American healthcare since Medicare, and yet people’s health is still at the mercy of cruel greedy corporations.

But who says, “I see an America where….?” and offers a compelling credible vision of a better future for the American people? Short answer: nobody with any chance of holding power.

What If WE Reject the Failed Culture and Politics?
