…nough, we can still achieve fulfilment by focusing on what might be called social living standards. These are the non-material things that make life worth living: family, friendship, community, nature, creativity, spirituality, learning, sport and whole host of other activities that, even when stripped of the commercialisation to which they have been subject in recent decades, can be enjoyed in full without the need for ever higher material living standards.

There is a wide gulf between the adrenaline rush of material possessions, and the true joy of living as a human being, sharing experiences with others, engaging in creative self-expression and experiencing Nature. The former is a fast-track towards universal death, and the latter is the road toward genuine life.
