There was a long time when I would have agreed with you. And I don’t quite agree with Naomi Klein either. But we DO need to address structural problems because it is the systems we live under that are blocking meaningful climate action. It’s not just petro-plutocracy. It’s also fossil fuel powered totalitarians like Putin and Bolsanro.

It’s seems that the powerful everywhere under nearly every system owe their positions to oil and gas and coal.

So, we need to disobey and defang the systems in the United States and China and India and Russia and U.K.

Naomi Klein may be expanding her crusade to addresses all of her concerns. She sees them as inseparable.

I also see the climate crisis as inseparable from the power structure in multiple countries and systems. NOTHING can be allowed to get in the way of effective climate action because we all live on the same planet. If climate activists lose, the other side doesn’t win…unless you consider dominating an utter hell of a planet a win.

I think people everywhere should defy their putative leaders, those who abuse the planet, whether those leaders are dictators or democrats. And it doesn’t matter whether they are wealthy individuals, politicians, businessmen, corporations or leaders of institutions like the World Bank.

The fact is, all of these leaders have failed catastrophically, not because they are bad people (although many are), but because they are part of systems that are effectively amoral systems leading us to unfathomable suffering.

I don’t cheer for any ism. I fight for our species and our planet, and no ideology will deter my course.
