There’s a fair amount of fake ransomware. I was “attacked” by someone who claimed he could control my primary email account. He SEEMED to be able to send me email from it. I changed the password on my email account, deleted the idiot’s messages and blocked him.

Maybe your attack is a phony, too. I hope so. I suspect fake attacks are far more common than real ones.
