This is an absurd claim. An extraordinarily high percentage of useless commodified crap is produced in China. De-growth would apply to China as much or possibly even more than many industrialized Western countries. But it would apply everywhere.

I strongly disagree that de-growth would seriously diminish the quality of life—except for people who are so hollow that their lives are meaningless without a constant stream of new useless crap.

However, climate collapse—if we fail to sharply and speedily slash C02 emissions through de-growth and other tactics—will hit us full force and absolutely destroy lives, possibly extinguishing our species completely.

So, yeah, de-growth is not a mistake but an urgent part of our only possible chance for survival. This would have been much less painful if we began cutting C02 emissions when scientists warned us decades ago.

There WILL be suffering—caused by those who tried to deny reality and keep this shell gaming going…and all for the petty human greed of a few petro-plutocrats.
