For comparison, the fossil fuel industry got $5.9 TRILLION in subsidies in the year 2020 alone. (This figure comes from the International Monetary Fund.)

So yes, 1/10th of a few trillion dollars is essentially nothing at all.

Your grandchildren will have no debt because civilization will be over and any that survive will be dodging wildfires, searching for berries or roaches to eat.

Maybe you don’t believe in the record breaking storms, heatwaves and wildfires that are already happening. I don’t know where your head is at.

“There’s an extinction level asteroid heading towards Earth. But we’ll let it hit because we don’t want our grandchildren to have to pay back the debt.”

Incidentally, I happen to have a degree in economics and MMT is correct — this debt is easily managed by a currency issuing federal government. But even if it wasn’t, I’d choose life over universal death.

The hundreds of millions of angry children are fully justified in their contempt for the stupid, short-sighted and selfish adults who offer nothing but empty promises and excuses, year after year.
