This makes a lot of sense to me. I’m the founder of The Saners Movement—we are people who believe it is literally insane to destroy the planet we all live on. We are determined to prevent that destruction by putting climate scientists in charge of an emergency global climate program.

We understand that current systems—and not individuals—are the prime movers of climate destruction.

We need to dismantle oil companies, not attack oil executives. The former are doing the destruction, the latter are interchangeable—albeit coddled—pawns. Change all the executives and the problem remains.

We know that climate scientists aren’t perfect but they have the most knowledge and expertise. And they are less likely than businessmen and politicians to destroy the Earth for (imagined) personal gain.

As for the strategy of The Saners Movement—how to transfer this power from politicians and businessmen to climate scientists—we are trying to learn from Gandhi and King—people who guided movements that overcame massive obstacles to achieve impressive things.

As you say here about the universe as a whole, there are no hard and fast rules. How our movement proceeds will be inspired by geniuses like King and Gandhi, but this is an art and we will need to make educated guesses. And correct course as needed.
