The people who enforce tyranny, who work for abusive authorities, who are trained to shoot at protesters, are not our enemy. They may be foolish because they were born into a foolish civilization and don’t know better. We don’t know about each one individually.

Many, perhaps most of them, potentially pose a danger to us. But we can show them that we are not a danger to them. Or to anyone. YOU can show them.

The success of any movement depends, in part, on humanizing everyone, especially those opposed to the injustice that the movement targets. That is, we dissenters need to be humanized. Policy, military and other armed representatives of the status quo must recognize that dissenters aren’t their enemy: that (we) are spouses and parents and children and friends and relatives and thoughtful strangers.

Police will refrain from shooting their loved ones. It’s your job—as an activist, as a friend of freedom, as an adversary to injustice—to make sure that police and other enforcers remember who you are, that you are a person, that you are really one of them. Or more accurately, they are like you.

Division and hatred are intentionally incited by elites, keeping their victims…
