Far from being alarmist, scientists have been careful in their assessments of the climate and what to expect. They have consistently understated the severity of the crisis. They did this because caution is part of the way science operates.

Even so, we were clearly warned a long time ago that we have a serious problem and failing to take decisive action would be costly. And now here we are. We have no right to act surprised.

Science Is A Part of This — But Not the Whole Thing

There is no doubt that we must listen to the scientists and take appropriate action to deal with the chemistry and physics and biology of the crisis. But we need to do even better than that.

Here and now we must learn to deeply recognize and respect our common humanity and our place in Nature. This is not a crunchy granola Birkenstock pronouncement. Our forgetfulness about where we are and how we got here and where we are going will literally kill us all, if we don’t wake up to what we already know.

Ultimately, Only the Loving Survive

Some would couch this in religious terms, others as a spiritual re-awakening. But it works for a secular world…
