Today’s United States is like the Soviet Union in about 1988. It’s not trusted and its apparent strength is a hollow fragile shell. But this is true everywhere. All governments have failed at their minimum requirement for legitimacy—preserving a habitable planet for the next generation.

Fortunately, we can take advantage of this failure and collapse to (somewhat) rescue Nature and our children’s future. And we can replace our species’ childish culture of greed and selfishness with a mature sense of responsibility, compassion and—at last—love.
