We bring our own thoughts to people's lyrics. I'm reading "I Hate It Here" as dissatisfaction with our world today, and that she wishes she could live in an imaginary past, NOT the actual 1830s but an idealized one without the racism and misogyny that was present then (and is still present today.)

I think it's a bit unfair to take the most negative view of a person's artistic expression unless that person has a history largely characterized by cruelty. I'm not someone who listens to her music, but Swift seems to me to be a mostly kind and thoughtful person.

Maybe I'm wrong. I dunno.
