Well, even white liberals aren't a unified group. Several white liberals joined black activists as Freedom Riders and suffered the same fate as black activists—getting beaten and killed protesting for justice.

But yeah, the whole notion of going slow, promoted by many white liberals was a big impediment, because it SOUNDS reasonable.

In reality, it helps racists retain brutal control.

Malcolm X and MLK were intellectual leaders of the movement—and movements are HARD. It's tricky to know what to do and when. But anyone working with people who are smart and trying hard to find ways to defeat a more powerful (and evil) opponent? Well, those people are on the right side.

I'm always impressed by movement leaders. But Malcom and MLK (and Gandhi) were already very sharp and well educated individuals. It's even more impressive when the leader has less going for him or her. For example, Cesar Chavez has a partial grade school education, and lived in poverty—yet he lead a successful movement against exploitation for migrant workers.

I think there should be fewer monuments to "war heroes" and more monuments to REAL heroes—like King and MLK and Chavez. Our CULTURE needs to develop and embrace good values, to learn to value human beings and human dignity. This would enable us to consolidate gains and make it harder for retrograde movements like MAGA to ever take hold.
