Well, I'm an old white guy and I've come to the aid of women—and others—many times. I'm not a hero; I just see it as human decency. I walked beside a women who was being verbally abused with anti-Islamic slurs by some guy because of her head scarf. I yelled at the guy—who was bigger, stronger and much younger than me. And I escorted the women to a safe place. I also chased down a phone snatcher—who was a woman—and returned the phone to the woman who's phone was stolen. But I haven't only protected women. I try to protect anyone who seems to be in need. And I've had strangers come to my aid—once when I fell.

This isn't heroism. I call it civilization. We need more of this all around.
