Austerity can only realistically cut down on emissions by around 20% and I’m being very generous. Through cutting down or going minimal on meat (10% max) and cars (20% max) and air-conditioning (5% max).

What about every non-essential product that’s produced? That is, the huge volume of useless consumer products? 

Why not look at this in reverse? Since production with fossil fuels is destroying the climate, why not only produce what’s necessary for life? We can enjoy each others company instead of “stuff.”
