What I wrote was a bit hostile—especially in writing. I apologize for that. I share your concerns. My priorities are, perhaps, slightly different.
I think I personally have no hope of fixing issues like the ones you cite THROUGH the existing system. I may be wrong, but I feel that time is too short now—with the climate beginning to collapse NOW—to make changes in any slow incremental systematic way.
My focus on the system is to simply expose its corruption and illegitimacy and encourage everyone to defy it or go around it.
That said, I support a VARIETY of tactics because I don't know which one or ones might work. So, I support groups trying to make reforms through the system—like the Sunrise Movement. I support groups that are trying to use disruptive tactics—like Just Stop Oil. I'm sympathetic to active reformers in politics, like AOC and Bernie Sanders.
What I dream of, and try to promote, is a blizzard of activity that overwhelms business as usual and forces quick and decisive change.
We SELECTED a committed climate activist, Al Gore, as our president in 2000. The Supreme Court overruled the American voters. We COULD and SHOULD have been acting decisively to slash C02 emissions for more than 20 years now. Instead, C02 emissions have continued to INCREASE.
There's no time left for slow anything.
I'm encouraging the creation of many, many small groups...mini-communities that meet virtually to develop and execute their own tactics. I call these Virtual Climate Parties, because they are combined social and tactical events. There are two scheduled for February. I hope people attend and then start their own such groups.
