It’s one thing for schoolchildren to skip school. It’s another for them to FORCE failed governments and businesses to put climate scientists in charge of a worldwide emergency program to save what can be saved of our damaged Earth. This is fiction — but it’s also my dream and a guide to my own plans as an activist.
Greta said it’s time to go back to school. Even on Fridays. We’re not going to worry about the future any more. She said we are going to make the future.
That was two weeks ago. We were back in school, but then Greta told us that school is over. We are now not only skipping school on Fridays. We are out in the streets every day. School days. Weekends. It doesn’t matter.
Greta told us it’s time to play. No more school. Ever. Until we get our way.
So, we play. We play hopscotch, jump rope. We play red rover and red light green light. We do it in every major city on the planet. And we do it in traffic. Traffic that is completely blocked because, well, it’s bad optics to run over school children with your car.
It’s also bad optics to have police shoot at us or arrest us. And even dragging us away nonviolently looks pretty damn brutal. So, most times, they never even try those kinds of things.
