We are committed to nonviolent noncooperation to change humanity radically for the better. But what’s unique about our movement?
I didn’t want to create a movement. I wanted to join a movement, an existing group seeking to stabilize the climate and, perhaps, make some improvements to human rights.
I had hoped to join a focused group that could effectively address ONE core problem—the danger of climate collapse, which poses a looming threat to all of humanity, as well as to our fellow species that live on this planet.
But I didn’t find a group that I thought would be effective. I found serious shortcomings in both the objectives and the tactics of every movement I investigated. It wasn’t that I didn’t like them or respect them.
I did and I do. Deeply. Anyone who cares enough to make an effort, to TRY, has my deepest respect. And the commitment of some of these groups, people willing to go to jail, is something I find humbling and inspiring.
That said, I don’t think that they have moved the needle sufficiently and I have doubts they ever will. I could very well be wrong, and hope that I am. BUT, I felt a desperate need to be part of a movement whose objectives and tactics I did believe have a good chance of success.
