Fiction. What would happen if people suddenly went sane?

So, scientists announced that the feared 1.5 Celsius temperature increase will happen by 2027 and nothing can stop it. Who knew that would be the tipping point? It seemed like nothing, no matter how horrifying, could move people to wake up and care about the death of our common habitat — which would inevitably mean the death of our species.

I guess there’s always a line, and when it’s crossed, big changes happen. When Marie Antoinette said “let them eat cake,” that set people off. When President Suharto had his thugs shoot 500 protesters at Trisakti University, he was overthrown. These things happen.

For the Earth as a whole, it was a delayed reaction to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

It started with letters to politicians, then questions for politicians at public events. People wanted to know why we should have any faith left in our government or corporate leaders who claim to care about the climate when they blew through 1.5 Celsius without comments, excuses or any meaningful action?

Then the questions became statements.
