The IPCC has sounded the final warning bell — albeit with the optimistic note that we still have enough time to avert catastrophe. But, there is no sign that the “leaders” — the people in charge — will do anything to save the climate and our species. They have had decades of warnings and chose to do nothing. In fact, lobbyists and billionaires and corporate leaders and their “think tanks” and PR flacks and bribe-taking politicians have done everything in their power to ensure that fossil fuels will continue to be profitably burned to the last barrel.
In all probability, they will “win.” By winning, I mean that they will get their way and kill off our species, “win” a charred cinder of a planet, and “win” the hatred of their suffering and dying grandchildren who’s lives they are destroying.
Nature doesn’t give a damn about politics, or economics, or who “wins” an argument. Chemistry and physics operate as they always have and burning fossil fuels is literally burning our planet with more ferocity every day.
Which leaves us with the question, what do “we” — and by “we” I mean sane people who understand what’s happening and are not people in powerful positions, are not the decision makers.
