What you write here reflects, I believe, the silent fears and anxieties of millions and more likely billions of people around the world.
We are worried. We SEE the destruction of the climate and the terrible disasters that have been unleashed. We SEE our leaders have failed and continue to fail. The big celebrated agreements—the Paris Accords, the Inflation Reduction Act—are insufficient at best to meet the severity of the crisis.
Our house is on fire, and our leaders are taking slow measured steps, and taking advice from the arsonists—the fossil fuel industry. That is insanity.
People are realizing that leaders have failed for decades and are continuing to fail and—if they remain in power—will finish destroying the habitability of the planet.
They want to do something, but the systems in place favor the continued climate abuse aided by our leaders. Our only hope is to get rid of them all, and replace them with young climate activists—people who's generation will inherit this grievously damaged Earth. Only the young understand and care enough to act—because THEY will feel the full force of the failure of their elders.
We CAN and MUST force change. Not ask for it. Not try to persuade. Not wait to win some elections. Ordinary people make huge changes all the time. What happened to bad rulers in Romania? In Czechoslovakia? In Egypt? Who brought down the powerful Soviet Union in a few weeks?
Not every peaceful revolt has resulted in getting a better successor. But, in this case, we will demand that young climate activists be put in charge. We won't back down until THAT happens. The planet belongs to the young.
