What's brilliant about The Wizard of Oz is that the wizard ISN'T a wise man—he's a bumbling, albeit well-meaning—fool. He's incompetent.
Frankly, I think that's a pretty accurate depiction of our society. A world where a few men pretend to be wise, and we listen to them and make them our leaders. Time to pull back the curtain, don't you think?
On a side note, I've always LOVED Margaret Hamilton, who played the Witch in the movie. And, yeah, she terrified me as a child. But that was the role.
I had the privilege of seeing her onstage in her later years in a George Bernard Shaw play, The Devil's Disciple. She was magnificent and had perfect coming timing.
Who knew?
